Antwerp in Belgium has become one of the leading cities in the world of fashion. As well as homegrown talent creating a buzz many young designers flock to the city which has always attracted artists of every persuasion

One such designer is Maria Intscher who in her own words originates from ‘the middle of no-where’ in Northern Canada.

Maria trained in Philidelphia and London where she spent time as an assistant to Alexander McQueen, before moving to Antwerp where she was initially assistant to Dirk Bikkenberg, one of the famous Antwerp 6. She founded her own label in 2000.

Her clothes are always beautiful and on initial inspection appear classically cut. A closer look reveals her play on tradition like here in this white cotton ‘multi’ shirt.

Maria is designing for woman who know what they like

These knee length shorts are beautiful with their draped sides that trail behind the body like the tail and fins of an exotic fish.

Twinned with this backless sexy top, how can you fail to look glamorous and stand out in a crowd.

These black ruffle trousers in wool gabardine and black silk chiffon, twinned with this ‘old lady’ black leather biker jacket, are a classic Intscher look, straight forward and direct, and look great!

Maria now sees Antwerp as home and the place that inspires her work the most.
